Building for Success During the fall of 2009, Second Chance's long-awaited reconstruction project begins. Upon completion, the newly designed headquarters will provide a second classroom, as well as a large community auditorium and additional program staff office space. The design of the new interior emphasizes efficient use of space and resources, both financial and environmental. It uses recycled materials when possible and is designed to earn LEED certification.
The project is being funded from a variety of sources. For several years Second Chance has sought and received considerable funding from the City of San Diego's Community Development Block Grant program. We are excited to announce that we have raised $1.5 million of the $2.0 million this project will require. Included in the $1.5 million is a $250,000 challenge grant from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation. In order to receive this money, however, we must raise $324,000 from other sources. Will you help us raise this money? Donating now will double the impact of your donation through the challenge grant and allow us to finish our expansion.
