A Message from Ray Ellis, Past Chair

Dear Friends,

I hope 2008 will be a great year for you and your family. Thank you for all your past support in assisting Second Chance serve so many men, women and youth in the San Diego area move to a life of permanent self-sufficiency. I have just concluded two years as the board chair for Second Chance and wanted to express my personal and deep appreciation for your involvement with Second Chance.

Through your help and others like you, we have been able to accomplish many important objectives over the last year including:

  • Increased services to individuals by 22%

  • Graduated 524 men and women from our nationally-recognized STRIVE job readiness program

  • Placed 408 graduates in jobs in the San Diego Area

  • Increased annual campaign funding by 48%

  • Held our second successful "Profiles of Success" gala at the NTC Promenade, celebrating 3,000 San Diego STRIVE graduates

I am proud to share that Second Chance has been able to accomplish these objectives without significantly increasing staff. Our staff continues to be a critical part of the organization's powerful results. I am also pleased to announce that Mr. Greg Markow, Esq., a partner with Hecht, Solberg, Robinson, Goldberg & Bagley LLP has taken over as the new board chair. Greg will do a great job leading the board as we continue to move forward. Mr. Jeff Silberman, Esq. of Carleton Management, Inc. is our incoming vice chair.

Unfortunately, our work is not complete. Even with our growth, we are unable to serve all program applicants until we build a second classroom, recruit and train additional staff and acquire additional alcohol-free and drug-free houses. I can assure you this is a capacity issue not an efficiency issue. We have the funding to build a second classroom but we need the trainers, job developers, case managers and mental health therapists to serve a larger group of program participants. With this in mind, please consider a gift to Second Chance to start the New Year. Your gift will help us add the new classroom and appropriate staffing.

Thank you for your past support and consideration of another gift to help us serve our increased number of program applicants.

Sincerely,

Please Donate
