Weinberg Challenge Grant
Featured in the Winter 2008 Newsletter

Second Chance received an exciting multi-year challenge grant investment from the Baltimore-based Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation in 2007. For each $1 donated by local philanthropists in San Diego, the Weinberg Foundation has pledged to commit $2 in support of our work, up to $200,000 for each of 2007, 2008, and 2009.

We are seeking to generate $100,000 through special investments and gifts from local donors this year to support our programs. With the Weinberg Foundation's generous matching commitment, this will leverage a total of $300,000 for Second Chance programs this year.

In 2007, we were able to take full advantage of the challenge grant thanks to generous donations from the community.

Funds donated from private individuals and charities play a crucial role in helping to support the program services of Second Chance. The challenge grant provided by the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation is allowing us to launch new efforts by leveraging and matching the support of local donors who believe in our work.

Second Chance STRIVE class #116 was the largest in the program's history. A significant increase in class size over the last few months has highlighted the need for a second classroom and increased program staff.
