Lai'Kara Reed - Graduate Class 169
Lack of love losses hurt and depression
equaled pain tears and grief of lifes lessons
The struggle and fear to not reach perfection
is a stress that leads to unhealthy obsession
Life on the fence is not without consequence
but I took that risk at my own expense
And became the woman formerly known as
Lai'kara or Lai aka Ms Mistakes

Miss I'm always late
Miss I'll do it my way
Miss constant confusion with no resolution
Miss tons of excuses
Miss pay restitution
Miss never did listen and
Miss inconsistent has made the decision to become less resistant

I now realize that a tree deeply planted
cannot be easily uprooted
And if I concentrate well
then I can't be diluted
I've decided this day that I wont be excluded
from success I deserve and I'm here to prove it

Although my skills and talents may vary
I will pursue management in culinary!

Angie's Story

“I was a junkie all my life.  After Second Chance I live in a whole new world that I didn’t know existed.  I had no hope but now I have so much.  It feels really good to do an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay.”

“When I left Second Chance, I was determined to be the best I could be at my new job whatever it was.  Second Chance participants learn to be the best they can be at their new jobs even if the job is not a dream jobs”.  Angie took this advice to heart and it is really paying off for her.  After she graduated from Second Chance as part of class #112, she took a job at Vons, determined to be the best grocery bagger that Vons had ever seen.  So she did extra things like picking up litter while retrieving carts from the parking lot, taking to heart another piece of workforce training advice, “Be aware that people could be watching even if you aren’t aware of it”.
