SMART Housing Program

Second Chance is the housing partner for the San Diego City Attorney’s SMART pilot program.           The San Diego Misdemeanants At-Risk Track (SMART) program prioritizes chronic offenders with acute drug addictions and complex social service needs.

SMART will safely divert chronic misdemeanor offenders, particularly those who are otherwise resistant to intervention, to a case manager and tailored housing placements at Second Chance. Family Health Centers of San Diego will provide individualized treatment.

As the housing partner, Second Chance will provide participants with basic needs (including but not limited to furnishings, showers, and laundry facilities), blankets and linens, emergency food, bus passes, and a Case Manager to assist in connecting individuals to services. Participants can receive housing for up to two years, or until he/she transitions to their own permanent housing.
